Education

Accessing quality education is one of the highest priorities for Foreign Service families.  Overseas posts offer a wide variety of schooling.  Because every child is different, even a school with an excellent reputation might not be the right fit for each student. Therefore, families need to become familiar with their options.  From special needs and allowances to online schooling and boarding school, there is much to know and consider.

Education Resources

You'll find information about allowances, AP vs IB guidance, information and links for boarding, online and home schools, DC metro area school systems and much more.  Take some time to review their website.

The Office of Overseas Schools maintains lists of both assisted and other schools at all overseas posts.  Additional information is available on the intranet.  If you have questions about particular schools and geographical regions, you can email the designated Regional Education Officer (REO). They are frequently traveling but make a point of responding quickly to emails.

If you're preparing to go overseas, you need to make sure to visit the OBC.  The staff at OBC will help you find information relevant to your post, including information about schools, pets, culture, and logistics. OBC maintains a library of Post videos including youth entries to the annual Kid Vid contest which typically include sections on schools at youth lifestyle at post.

For Military Families:
Don't forget to check the DoD education website
