The Overseas Briefing Center and the Foreign
Service Youth Foundation announced the winners of the
2002 KidVid contest.
This year's first place winners were Anne
(age 14) and Martha (age 10) Kome, assisted
by Emanuel (age 7) and Irene (age 5) Kome
for their video production on Libreville, Gabon. The animated
narrative and accompanying footage offered a comprehensive
view of life at their post from a kid's point of view.
The second place winner was Ramon Taylor
(age 15) for his production of life in Dakar, Senegal.
His extensive, clever footage provided an appealing view
of this city. The third place winners were Jacquelyn
(age 14) Wintersteen and James Scholl (age
11) for their entry from Budapest, Hungary. Their enthusiastic
description and video recording included many of the possible
topics suggested in the contest rules for depiction, even
the international school.
Honorable mentions were received by Maureen
and Sarah O'Sullivan in Helsinki, Finland and Alexandra
Rauland in Quito, Ecuador. A group from Lome, Togo
that included 14 children: Keenan and Ian Arnold,
Elisabeth, William and Zoe Hofman, Naomi Lanos, Nicholas
and Ryan Ogier, Erik, Kalani and Kenneth Robertson,
Katryna Romero, Gabriel and Samatha Lechuga
also recieved honorable mention.

Briefing Center's video library.
2001 KID VID Contest Winners
The Overseas Briefing Center and the Foreign Service Youth
Foundation are proud to announce the winners of the 2001
KID VID Contest. The contest is open to all family members,
ages 10 - 18, who are assigned to an embassy or consulate
abroad. Contestants are asked to submit videos that reflect
what typical daily life is like for youth at a particular
post. Entries include information on the housing, schooling,
shopping, and types of recreation, etc. available from the
youth's point of view. The videos can be group projects
or single person productions. All entries become a permanent
addition to the Overseas Briefing Center's Video Library.
First place winner was Douglas Sparrow (age 17)
whose keen interest in the unique aspects of living in Maputo
impressed the judges. His engaging narrative and comprehensive
footage provide a relevant audio visual that will be helpful
to families assigned to or considering bidding on this post
in Mozambique.
The Heffern Family: Lucy (age 17), Sarah (age 16),
Woody (age 14), and Alley (age 11) took second place for
their creative video on the teen scene in Brussels. The
enthusiastically narrated production presents an inviting
view for families with adolescents considering this tri-mission
post.
Julia Lane (age 13), Jonathan Combs (age
11), and Grace Hathaway (age 10) were awarded third
place for their collaborative production on life in Gaborone.
This comprehensive video contains many relevant aspects
of youth life at this post in southern Africa.
