2003 Kid Vid Contest Winners

Congratulations to the winners of the Overseas Briefing Center/ Foreign Service Youth Foundation 2003 KidVid Contest. This year's first place winners are Philip (P.J.) Nice (age 18) and Micah Kagler (age 16) for their lively production on Montevideo, Uruguay. Their engaging narrative and extensive footage of this post depicted an appealing view of life in Montevideo from a young person’s perspective.

The second place winner is Britta Coley (age 11) for her video of life in Frankfurt, Germany. Incorporating innovative transitions, her thorough footage includes a broad range of the contest’s suggested elements and highlights many of the special features of this European post. Third place winners are Iain Addleton (age 12), Cameron Addleton (age 10) and Parker Wilhelm (age 10) for their entry from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Enthusiastically narrated, this footage provides an inviting view of life for youth at this unique post.

Ramon Taylor (age 16), a past winner from the 2002 KidVid contest, won a special award for the most technically sophisticated video for his beautiful and extensive footage of Dakar, Senegal and its people. The most creative entry is awarded to Olivia Underwood (age 10) and Owen Underwood (age 8) of Seoul, Korea. From beginning to end, they provided a KidVid with a creative theme that included all of the contest’s required elements.

This year, the Overseas Briefing Center received a record number of entries. FSYF donated $1,000 in prize money. Award money compliments of the State Department Federal Credit Union. In addition to cash prizes, winners will be invited to the annual FSYF Awards Ceremony. All videos will be added to the Overseas Briefing Center's video library. So if you are looking to check out a post from a kid’s point of view, remember this resource. If you missed this year’s contest, it is not too early to start on your video for the 2004 OBC/FSYF KidVid.
