Saturday Teen Tutors Program

Many of our teens have expressed an interest in earning some spending money while helping younger members of our FSYF community.   In response, we have created a program where teens and students meet on Saturday mornings at public library meeting rooms and spend an hour (or more depending on what is needed) working on homework or reviewing academic subjects.  Teens will earn $10/hour.

Our first meeting introducing the Teen Tutor program will be on Saturday, September 9th, from 9-10 am, at the Kings Park Library’s Conference room (15- person capacity).

We will discuss what is expected from teens and how to successfully tutor kids.  We will also talk about how to know you are being successful and what to do if your student does not seem to be understanding your lesson.

Prior to our meeting, I will send out a survey to the FSYF community to assess the academic needs of our younger students.  This will also help tutors know how to prepare for their sessions.

If your teen is interested in attending the Saturday Teen Tutors Program Information Sessions, please RSVP.

As a former Fairfax County Public School teacher (I taught 4th grade AAP at Mantua Elementary School), I know how important it is for educators and students to receive the support that they need to be successful.  During this first hour session on Saturday, September 9th, tutors will learn a little about child development, strategies for guiding children’s behavior, tips on how to build rapport with your student, as well as an introduction to multiple intelligences and diverse learning styles.  We will be learning about our students and ourselves during these Saturday Teen Tutor sessions and I would like our tutors to have a chance to share their triumphs and challenges with each other following the paid sessions.

This is a great opportunity to help our FSYF community have an excellent school year!
